We forget sometimes how quickly and completely mobile technology has transformed the world of computing. Not so long ago, when you wanted to use a computer, you had to go to wherever it was located. Early mainframe computers were as big as a room, and early PCs were called desktop computers for a reason. Mobile technology changed everything. Today, we have smartphones, tablets, and laptop computers. They’re easy to carry around, they all have far more computing power than those early mainframe and desktop computers, and we can use them virtually anywhere.
To make your mobile devices and portable computers even more useful, Microsoft recently made Office available to more people in more ways. Just this week, we released new Office for iPhone and Office for iPad apps and updates, previewed the new Office for Android, and announced the upcoming touch-optimized Office apps for Windows. To make sure users can have a consistent Office experience across all of their devices, we made it possible for them to create and edit Office content on iPhones, iPads and, very soon, on Android tablets using Office apps, even if they don’t have an Office 365 subscription. And to keep everything working smoothly, we announced new innovations in the security, privacy and compliance capabilities of Office 365.
Another way we’re making Office 365 available to more people is by expanding into new markets. Earlier this week, we announced that Office is now available in 140 markets worldwide.
In addition, we recently announced a partnership between Microsoft and Dropbox. We’ll be updating Office apps to make it easy for you to access, edit and share your Dropbox files from your Office apps. We also made Outlook for Mac available to Office 365 subscribers, and announced that we plan to release the new version of Office for Mac in 2015.
