Here at Microsoft, we constantly look for ways to empower teachers around the world using technology—both in the classroom and online. Recently our subsidiary, Microsoft Open Technologies Inc. (MS Open Tech) announced a partnership with Remote-Learner to integrate Office 365 and the Moodle learning management system (LMS).
Moodle, one of the most popular learning management systems is now integrated with OneNote, OneDrive for Business, the Office 365 Outlook Calendar and Office Mix.
Instructors can easily embed interactive online lessons created in PowerPoint with Office Mix. Lessons may contain audio, video, digital ink, interactive simulations or assessments.
Anoop Gupta, distinguished scientist for Office Mix said, “We are thrilled with the opportunity to partner with Remote-Learner and integrate with the world-class Moodle learning management system. Through our integration, Office Mix will provide a terrific, free experience for flipped classrooms and blended learning environments that educators can easily build using the familiarity of PowerPoint.”
Here’s a quick demonstration from Anoop on the Office Mix and Moodle experience:
All of this functionality and more is available from the Moodle plugin repository as two sets of integrated Moodle plugins:
- Office 365 plugin—Provides single sign-on, OneDrive integration, Outlook Calendar integration and other features including Office Mix integration. The source code is available on GitHub.
- Microsoft Services plugin—Provides integration with OneNote Consumer (for use by students), as well as Office Mix integration and other functionality is coming soon. The source code is available on GitHub.

We’re excited by the possibilities in learning and look forward to seeing what you can do with Office Mix and Moodle.
Happy Mixing!
