Body:

Hybrid computing is the intersection between traditional on-premises and cloud computing models. Deploying a hybrid scenario is useful when you need to realize ROI on existing on-premises investments, when you require a bridge between on-premises and cloud to support migration, or if you’re not ready to move to the cloud all at once. We are committed to continued innovation and guidance for those of you who are deploying hybrid scenarios. To demonstrate our commitment, we recently launched new interactive hybrid computing training and introduced new changes to SharePoint that make it easier to work in hybrid environments.

New documentation and training for hybrid computing

We published new interactive courseware to help you understand hybrid topologies and the considerations that come with it. The series of three modules, comprised of 14 presentations, provides an end-to-end, high-level overview of coexistence scenarios and solutions. We’ll continue to update this content, adding depth and breadth as we continue investing in this space.

We also updated our TechNet documentation to make it easier for you to discover hybrid resources, and we’ll continue to update our guidance in line with our product investments. You can find our documentation here.

Improvements to SharePoint for hybrid environments

In the recent May 2014 Cumulative Update, we included a code change to the SharePoint authentication service that gives farm administrators greater control over OAuth request validation behavior. OAuth request validation allows users outside the on-premises intranet to securely access on-premises content. For example, when users with permission to see the information click an on-premises result in combined SharePoint Online (SPO) search results, they are able to open the document without needing an active VPN or DirectAccess connection to the intranet. You can learn more about these changes here.

Looking ahead

We’re excited about the opportunity and benefits of the cloud. The cloud allows us to be more agile in our development, increases the speed with which we can bring innovation to market, and enables us to create new experiences that leverage the computational power and integrated aspects that come only with Office 365. We understand that not all of you are able to move to the cloud all at once. That’s why you’ll continue to see us deliver more hybrid and coexistence innovation through cumulative updates and our upcoming on-premises release planned for 2015, as well as more training, readiness material, and guidance.

For those of you ready to take the leap, hybrid computing can help you get there. For more information and to understand what hybrid scenarios can do for your business, check out these resources:
